Switched Roles

Switched Roles

I was scrolling through Tumblr and came across these images that are what I’m assuming to be advertising clothing.. I found it interesting that instead of having half naked women drawing attention to the advertisement, it was switched to the men. If these types of photos were found in magazines all of the time, not necessarily fully naked as these men were but close to it, I’m sure there would cause a huge uproar. We don’t bat an eye when we have half naked women in advertisements, well not all of us do, because we’re so accustomed to it but if it were the other way around it would probably be a huge problem. There are a few more photos but I don’t know how to attach them all.. so the link is http://chloesky.tumblr.com/post/62065178646/fuckyeahsexpositivity-yellow-dress if you’re interested.

  1. You present a really good point. There are so many advertisments that are degrading to women; however, rarely any that put men in a negative light. It would be very interesting to see how men would react to these advertisments if they surfaced more often.

  2. This is such an important subject that you have brought up here that many don’t realize in advertisement. Marketers, and advertisers have made it so common and casual to utilize women as objects in their advertisements that looking at this image I knew something was not “normal” about it. Although I am against using women in that way I still reacted differently to this image than I would have to a “normal” picture because that is how much the society has conditioned us to have set mindset about the role of women in advertisement.
